Helping you go the distance – one step at a time.

We’re excited to introduce our new volunteer running coach, Paul Schwer, who will be supporting runners taking part in events on behalf of Brave Futures. Whether you’re running your first 10K or aiming for a full marathon, Paul is here to guide you through the journey with expert advice, encouragement, and a genuine passion for the sport.

“I was delighted when Brave Futures asked me if I would like to be involved with coaching people who have committed themselves to the challenge of a major running event, but need some advice and guidance along the way. Hopefully, I can help make the training more manageable and the achievement more memorable.” – Paul Schwer

From Slow Paul to The Slow Coach
Paul’s own running journey began later in life. He only took up running as he approached his 50th birthday – and what started as a personal challenge turned into a global adventure. Embracing the nickname ‘Slow Paul’, he has since completed hundreds of races around the world, including 34 marathons.

When Paul retired from work, he knew he wanted to give something back to the sport that had brought him so much joy. He qualified as a UK Athletics Coach in Running Fitness (CiRF) and a McMillan Running certified coach, and now proudly calls himself ‘The Slow Coach’.

Paul works with people of all ages and abilities, but especially loves supporting new and inexperienced runners. His approach focuses on building confidence, improving running technique to help prevent injuries, and designing personalised training plans that are realistic and motivating.

Coaching with Compassion
Running for Brave Futures is about more than fitness – it’s about raising vital funds and awareness to support children and young people who have experienced sexual abuse. We know taking on a major challenge can feel overwhelming, which is why having a coach like Paul makes all the difference.

With his wealth of experience, encouraging style, and tailored support, Paul is here to help our runners not just cross the finish line – but enjoy every step of the journey.

If you’ve signed up to run for Brave Futures, or are thinking about it, and would like to benefit from Paul’s coaching support, get in touch with us at hannah@bravefutures.org.

We can’t wait to see what we can achieve together, with Paul by our side.
